This project responds to London’s increasingly severe housing crisis by proposing a housing and community scheme as a precedent for socially and environmentally sustainable future developments within the Metropolitan Green Belt (MGB).

Joe Russell

Joe Russell is an architectural designer studying as a Master of Architecture I candidate at Harvard University. His professional experience includes architectural positions at RSHP (Richard Rogers Partnership), HDR, SOM, Adjaye Associates and LexisNexis.

Selected awards include international competition first prizes in Buildner’s Unbuilt Awards, Architizer’s A+ Awards and Archisource’s Drawing of the Year. These are alongside institutional distinctions including Harvard GSD’s Full Dean’s Merit Scholarship and the HDR Design Scholarship.

His work has been featured by Metropolis Magazine, Archinect, Archisource, Architizer, Harvard, UCL, LSE, Archdaily and Buildner, and he has lectured as a guest speaker at the London School of Economics.

Theseus is a 150-bed housing project adjacent to the Port of Chelsea, MA, that repurposes cargo holds from decommissioned bulk-carrier ships, which are typically retired after just 25 years.
